Is VR-1 20-50 a detergent oil? Sounds good, but engine has 40K of standard oil, NAPA 20-50 made by Valvoline. Thank You.
Sage advice.Doesn't really matter what oil you use, just change it regularly........old school engines dirty their oil quite fast absorbing semi burnt fuel getting past the rings. I change mine every 1000 miles or so.......
Hehe, thanks Graham. It was Robert who recommended it and I've used it on all my bikes sinceI think this is the oil that Mike Tyler's been recommending on his videos.
Glen Breaks mentioned this website, very informative. I switched away from Brad Penn and now go with either Valvoline VR-1 or Castrol GTX Classic based on the test results. Either of those go into my 1964 Ford FE 427 too.Somewhat of a religious issue, but I've been using Royal Purple HPS 20W50 based on these tests:

I first became aware of Valvoline VR-1 when Big Sid gave it the thumbs up on this Forum a few years back,And it was I that told Robert about VR1, but he may have forgotten that.
