Is VR-1 20-50 a detergent oil? Sounds good, but engine has 40K of standard oil, NAPA 20-50 made by Valvoline. Thank You.

Doesn't really matter what oil you use, just change it regularly........old school engines dirty their oil quite fast absorbing semi burnt fuel getting past the rings. I change mine every 1000 miles or so.......

Glen Breaks mentioned this website, very informative. I switched away from Brad Penn and now go with either Valvoline VR-1 or Castrol GTX Classic based on the test results. Either of those go into my 1964 Ford FE 427 too.

I first became aware of Valvoline VR-1 when Big Sid gave it the thumbs up on this Forum a few years back,
Big Sid also recommended Denso Spark Plugs W22EP-U#4, but I did not get on with those, nothing like as reliable as my KLG FE70s.
