Painted engine cases were for fighting oil leaks from porous castings, no other purposes I´d say. So you can find this on MV fours - and possibly bevel Ducatis may be a good object for this treatment.

Considering how quickly the outside of my engine tarnishes after polishing I can only imagine internal polishing would do the same if the engine is used.

I think the insides might occasionally get oiled so less likely to oxidize.

Indeed! Polish. Ride. Forget. Polish your external alloy and wax/grease then it stays bright. Double for internals; otherwise why would you polish con-rods and cam followers?

Painted/Polished crankcases are for improving "windage", the drag on the crankshaft from the air/oil in the crankcase. The 1st and best thing to fight windage is a flywheel scraper, which all Vincents have.
