I have just been working on a Vincent damper that has been "rebuilt" by sombody (don't know who) and noticed the top nut that screws into the alloy body was sticking out much further. So I pulled the damper apart to discover the nut had been made 1/4" longer to fit a modern seal. This will have the affect of not allowing the damper to compress fully by 1/4". It's something to look out for. See photo in comparison to the std top nut.
