Misc: Charging Systems High Charging Current Advice Needed

The bike is fitted what I understand to be called a Chinamo, but has always seemed to produce a high charging current (3 to 4 amps) when cruising no matter what state the battery charge is. I have checked the calibration on the ammeter and it is pretty accurate. The last time I was out the battery got quite hot and packed in altogether, a previous larger battery was found to be slightly swollen when replaced.

I initially thought it may have been the voltage regulator and replaced this with a modern electronic type but did not seem to make any difference to the charging current shown on the ammeter.

Is this level of charging current normal?, grateful for any advice

Do you run the bike with the headlight on? What type of battery are you using? What regulator are you using? Some regulators require wiring changes from the generator to work properly.

If have checked the earth paths from the ufm, rfm, forks and engine and all are OK ie no resistance.
