I dunno, would there be a risk of shaft G40 being pushed downward? It would work better on the very earliest "B" covers with an extra stud near the inspection cap. Maybe re-align the horizontal cut to take in another stud for more support Also noticed that G66AS arm should have a stud and nut. The factory redesigned this for a good reason.
Smithy, In the 60 s, West London, Took it off just above the indicator, And left it Off, Chromed and polished everything, You didn't know anything was missing !!. Cheers Bill.
I have been doing something similar for about fifty years. It dates back to me sitting in a gutter among London's heavy traffic trying to sort out yet another broken kick starter spring. Remember the "good old days" when kick starter springs used to fail at frequent intervals? I do it slightly differently in that I make one cut straight across, roughly in the position of the horizontal part of the cut in the first photograph. I also file a small vee cut out on the lower inside face of the kick starter cover to let out any water or oil which might get in there.
