On my Comet project I will fitan Alton generator. The original oilseal for the Miller doesn`t fit. Which oilseal ( Simmerring) is best to use there? Erik

On one engine I did the whole of the oil seal and part of the surround was missing I put great globs of silicone on end and alton body and I never saw a leak

You can install a new seal that has the correct OD and ID to fit the Alton shaft, so no leaks........make sure the seal is the correct way around with the lip facing to the right.......the new Altons have a steel body and are much shorter now. I installed a new one on a Comet just the other day.......

Alton says that no oilseal is necessary? So with an oilseal it is like belt and braces?

I assumed that the seal was to keep oil from escaping the timing chest, not to do anything for the Alton.
