Misc: Charging Systems Alton Diagnosis

My 1999 vintage Alton has stopped working! The winding is 1 ohm, but when I flip the shaft, I don't feel the resistance of the permanent magnets. Why that would occur is a mystery. I'll write to the Alton works, but it seems like I'll need a new one. Any thoughts?

My guess is that the internal gears have failed and rotating the input shaft is not rotating the generator part.

The 99 model should be direct drive, no internal gears. Could the magnets have lost their magnetism?
This happens quite often with Lucas rotor magnets.
