I'm on a family holiday with time on my hands so I searched online for Rally Aiglon and found this program for 1956 on an expired e Bay listing. I wonder if the photo of the Vincent was taken at Place Saint-Martin - the address shown on the program?
Can anyone say how much half a million francs in prize money represented?
There's still a Rally Aiglon but it seems to be cars only now.
9.794 French Francs to the British Pound in 1956, there are several sites on the internet that will give this historic exchange rate in various currencies. That amount seems to be huge for prize money.
Likewise I think that at over £50k that sounds a massive amount for 1956 - maybe I'm not reading the programme correctly or there's some exaggeration by the promoters.
