After close examination of the Alternative Spare Parts List, diagrams 11 and 23 it seems to me that with a Comet I can simply replace PD8 with PD35 and that "should" facilitate a positive mechanical lock of PD7. So I have just ordered a couple of PD35 and will (eventually) report on the outcome.

I think you will have to modify PD5 or buy PD5/2 .

Yes, I figured that as well. With PD5/2 costing over 25 pounds I plan on attempting to modify PD5 to provide a keyway for the locking tab on PD35.
