Hi. I am about to assemble the crankcases on a Rapide and am not sure where to position the gearbox quadrant.
Should it be in the 1st gear position?
I assume the gear ratchet shaft will be in its resting position if the quadrant is in 1st gear position??
Thanks.

So long as the quadrant is fitted, its position is of no consequence until you build the'box. There should be a little spring which is supposed to hold the ratchet in first. In practise the weight of a 5/16 ring spanner on the shaft will ensure first position for assembly.

Imagine viewing the whole assembly from the kick starter cover side. The gear indicator will have been rotated as far anti clockwise as possible so that the indicator is in the first gear position and the bevel gear will have moved the cam plate as far round as possible but, as Roy says, until you put the cam plate in, and ensure that the cam plate is located in the first gear position then ,at first, it does not matter what position the bevel gear is.
