Just properly fitted my off the shelf gell battery sideways into the standard hole with push connectors it may need a rubber tube down the securing bolt to make up the remaining 1/4" width but otherwise it holds a lot of amps its square and black and meets my needs

I gutted one of these this week and put 4 of the LiFePo4 cells in. That makes about 6 Ah at only 620 gram compared to the lead gel type at over 2 kg. I had several failures with the gel types , the last had only one dead cell but what can you do - dump them. So only LiFePO for me in future, no vibration defects and I could replace individual cells if necessary.

hallo vic!nice to hear that you saved about 1500 gramms.i stopped eating to much in february and lost 14 Kilos in three month.this made my comet going faster ,especially uphill.best regards Erik .beside that i have a 12 Volt System fitted with a lead battery and closed cells.with the gel type battery i had a bad experience in my commando ,too.

Erik, weight saving in various places is no bad thing. The gel batteries do not take bad vibrations too well, soft mounting is essential. I could not do this on the four valve Horex for optical reasons so the minimum mileage with a NEW gel battery was just 10 !!! kilometers when the internal contact broke and I was stranded in the next town, only coil ignition on this Bike. That happened once again with just 15 km and another new gel type so then I switched to NiMh resp. LiFePo4 dry cells. So no lead types anymore for me, definitely.

Vic,

Have you been able to use common modern Vincent charging and regulator system like Podtronics/Alton, Walkernator or modified original 20th century charging systems with these Lithium battereies? Is there a risk from overcharging? They sound very good.

Oh, and that Horex knee pad is very conveniently placed to keep you from doing a tank selfie.

Ron, I hate selfies , so I chose the photo carefully.
No, I don´t have any experience with Vincent, still rebuilding the Argentina B-Rapides since end of 80ties, will take another year or two. I´d suggest some Googling for info on LiFePo4 types, these are NOT your typical LiPo combustibles that you charge in stainless steam pressure cookers. Certainly you will check charging voltage at 14 Volt - or half of that for 6 V application. But there are lots of voltage controllers from Ebay that I will test soon, no need to just look into classic bike suppliers. Watch this place for more info on things like that.
I like this forum for all sorts of not so conventional thinking on many topics.

Hi Graham, would you mind if I used a quick snapshot of one of your pictures of the original Exide battery in an upcoming video? I'm painting a VOC spares Co. reproduction battery box and would like to show an original box as a reference. Thank you!

Hi @Mike T

Sorry - I missed your post. Yes, please feel free to use whatever you like.

It’s the least I can do. My eldest son has watched all your YouTube videos and finds them really interesting.

He’s also interested to find out what brand of borescope you were using in the videos?
