Any hints, tips or otherwise to remove a tired spring and replace it with a healthy one on a set of Series B Brampton forks? Hoping to be able to do it without dismantling the whole front end.
Thank you.

Hi alyn, i did it with some 4 big tye- raps, double wound onto it.
And tightend them when i compressed the spring.

After i cut 3 the 4th got tired and snapped. So it was safe, after all

Later i make up some spanners with two 12 mm trapezium each side. Clamps are bit dificult to make...

The easy way to change a Brampton spring is a bit longwinded'
1. Place the bike on its rear stand and jack the engine up.
2. Remove the spring top nut.
3. Take out the 2 top fork spindles FT218 ( the square ends should be 5/16" not 8mm)
4. Let the forks swivel downwards, the top end will move forward , until the mudguard hits the Mag cowl.
5. The top end of the spring nut and bolt should drop out the steering head bracket. There should be no need to remove the speedo or the wiring.
6. Remove the spring from the bottom end with a strap wrench. (Bodgers use a pair of Stillsons)
7. You may find that the new spring/fork interface requires fettling.
8. Re-assemble in reverse order.
9. Allow plenty of time.

Enjoy yourself.
