A NOS head that has been collecting dust for 65 years or so. Purchased by my brother in the 70’s from a small shop that as far as I know had no real connection with Vincent. It is ported to 32mm and has the drainage groove for the intake. The groove, porting, and polishing all appear to have been done prior to the guides and retaining rings being installed at the factory. The original stake marks are on the retainers and there are no signs of tool marks or movement subsequent to installation. There are witness marks around the 4 cylinder stud holes from being attached to a jig, but no marks on any of the other mating surfaces ( including the rocker oil feeds) other than some shelf patina. The number stamped into the intake flange is a bit of a mystery and I’ve never seen another on like it. I have seen #’s stamped into a combustion chamber to note oversized seats, but nothing on intake ports.
Any thoughts on what the number might represent?
