I just need to go back and clarify something in #5 above. On re-reading it I can see that it is not correct. The horizontal angle of the lower link is when the bike is fully loaded, on its own wheels and with the rider seated with feet off the floor. One thing that has become clear over the last couple of years and with more feedback is that the spring rate and damping are strongly influenced by the rider weight. The un-sprung weight at the front, forks, wheels, headlamp etc is the same whether it is a Comet or a twin so the main variable is engine/gearbox weight and rider weight. Pillion passenger weight is mostly over the rear wheel and seems not to influence the front very much. So, if you weigh 120 -130 kg (20 stones plus) then you have more mass to control and stronger springs and damper are required. If you are 70 kgs, wet through, (10 stones) then you will need the lighter springs and the standard AVO damper near to its lowest setting. Sorry for the mistake.
