E: Engine Are Alloy Idlers a Problem?

Seems a rather barbed response considering that I've already said multiple times earlier in the thread that I'll be changing it to a steel one in due course.
Indeed, and coming from a Non attending West London Section member! looking forward to hearing about your progress a week on Wednesday, another Red Vincent in the Section will look good when parked alongside Hugo's Red Rapide.

In 2004 , when John McDougall opened up the timing chest on my 47 Rapide, he found an alloy big idler in there.
He showed me how each tooth was on the verge of losing a flake of aluminium.
Those aluminium shards circulating in the oil would have severely damaged or destroyed the engine.
I was lucky!

Not bad, that could have been rotating for 50 years, even a steel one might balk at that
