I agree, that's why I signed the petition in your Post Number 1 above. I would implore others in the UK to do likewise.

My bikes are under valued, For insurance, I have left them as they were years ago, Can't afford lots.
Might be in big trouble, If they are nicked ?. Cheers Bill.

There's not much you can do about that when on a meagre income. Except maybe sell the wife and get a cheaper one!
But hey, look on the bright side, I bet you've got them insured for more than you paid for them!

Dont forget the police can seize your vehicle for just having it parked illegally and a range of other offences
A pensioner had his car scrapped because he had forgotten to renew his licence at 70 (no DVLA reminder) and within the siezure time limit could not retrieve it without a valid licence
They scrapped 22,000 vehicles last year the majority were uninsured I know its a slight chance but worth jogging the minds of those in power especially those environmental activists who want to restrict use or remove all old vehicles

I agree Bill, thats just one reason (as I said on another thread) why I for one dont subscribe to "happy" when I see the silly prices paid in speculator heaven. its a funny thing but whatever happens to the market price of my bike it seems to give the same quality of ride as it did when I paid peanuts. lets hope enough keep using them to keep the spares rolling

If you have owned & ridden your Vin for 40+ years it's priceless to you.
That is not an insurable value!

Ray
That applies to most of my bikes I have worked on for years and a car I built myself. anything I just bought and used and is fairly current is insured and can be replaced those things are just washing machines with wheels

The Wife's off to France again !, I don't know how I can afford it !.
Funny the £ 60 or 70 I paid for my first Twin, Was still hard to find in the 60s, I think I had to loan £10 off my Mum and another £10 off my Sister, And £20 for insurance, They gave me a big quote, With the hope I would not take them up on it , L plates and a Twin outfit !, As you say, It has paid for it's self, After all these years.
Cheers Bill.

The last rebuild I did was a stolen Rapide recovered by the Police, the owner got a estimate for repair from a local dealer, the insurance Co. gave him that a mount I rebuilt the bike, His son is a a happy Vincent rider, besides being a out back Cessna pilot,

With you on this as have insured my old bikes based on what i estimate the cost to rebuild may be if badly damaged in an accident. Have estimated the chances of theft as fairly low ,the bikes are scarce enough to be traceable (hopefully) if they appeared on the open market. The issue as far as i can see could be with the insurance company ,if they perceive the declared value to be too low and they apply the percentage formula between your value and what they see as an open market value where we are badly served due to the prices currently being seen for "classic" machines.

unfortunately they do not re appear on the open market, they just simply disappear, I know of at least four bikes that where stolen, and have simply vanished, one of them was lifted at the clubs annual rally. that bike had just been re built, and the owner had it back only days before it was stolen.
