E: Engine VINCENT timing cover logo - black background or not?

I've noticed that sometimes the background of the VINCENT logo on the unpainted timing covers is painted black and sometimes it's not. Is there any rhyme or reason to when the embossed logo is accented with black paint and when it is unpainted? My 1950 B Meteor has an unpainted logo and I wondered if that were correct/original.

I think people paint them to highlight the embossing. Never seen it done on HRD covers but often on Vincent ones.

It's a very sixties thing to do almost like chequer tape! Never a standard thing from the works so of course I normally do it :cool:.red was very popular I think I did my flash background in dove grey.

I remember painting the Avon on my Road Runners, red white and blue.

I looked in Original Vincent for guidance, but didn't see any. There are photos of paint and no paint on the timing cover.
