I had a WM1 rim on the front of my Rapide. I usually managed to pinch the tube  putting a 90/90 x 19 on as there was not much room. The WM1 rim gave the tyre a bit more of a pointy profile and the steering felt quite sharp. I've had a WM2 rim put on now with a 100/90 x 19. The steering still feels good but a little slower and not quite as sharp. I might try a 90/90 x 19 next time I need a front tyre and see how it feels with a WM2 rim which should flatten the profile a little.

What model of Bridgestone?

That was my combo on the Shadow for many years, and a couple of trips across the US. But I got tired of the short tread life of the Roadrunner. I too do not care for the Safety Mileage II and the square profile. I have the same style Bridgestone 19 inch front/rear as on the Comet front, on the rear of the Shadow, it has worked well. Just bought an 18 inch RoadRider for the rear of the Egli. If the tread life is decent, I might try a 19 RoadRider front/rear on the rear of the Shadow, next time it needs a tire. I will always have a 300-20 ribbed on the front of the Shadow.

For years I have had 100/90/19 front with 110/ 18 rear on my road L/ning and like you thought I would like to try a 90 on the front, My Comet had that and felt so good, But after ridding a bog standard twin last year, I got back on my L/ning and it felt like a 250cc.
Maybe it was the REAR square type tyre on the standard bike, That made it feel so stiff !!, I could not help thinking ,How the hell did I race one of these !!.
Cheers Bill.

A couple of months ago in the Velo mag there was a heartfelt story about a guy who had a blowout on a square section tyre and said it folded over in a revolution and jammed in the frame and locked the wheel he managed to ride out the resultant skid.
As a result of this he only uses rounded profile tyres now. The contention being it will colapse in the center on a blowout and not fold .... discuss

That sounds like clincher tyres, when doing the Cannonball in 2014 my mate had a JD Harley that had them but changed them to conventional style as he said they come off in one revolution and jam every thing up.

Bruce, Bridgestone Spitfire 11F.

Bill, both the Comet front 19" and Shadow rear 19" are WM2 rims, with the 100/90 tyres. My only WM1 is the 300-20 front on the Shadow.

I don't think I would go with a 100/90 tyre on a WM1 rim, I think 90/90 max is okay. One chart I found said the old 300 width tyres are equivalent to an 80/90, a 325 width tyre is like a 90/90, and a 350 is like a 100/90. In the old days, would people fit a 350 tyre on a WM1 rim?

Sorry Steve , When I am talking, It's about 4 different bikes, I think I got mixed up with road runner and road rider tyres also !! There is no hope for me !.
The new Comet will have a 300/20 ribbed on a WM1 rim, Some thing I have not had for 50 years !!. Cheers Bill.

I have read this thread and currently have WM2 rims on the Comet with 19 inch Speedmaster Ribbed front and 19 inch square SM Mk2 rear. I don't like them and want a modern profile.
I'm looking at Avon Road Riders, but which is best? I'm a slow rider doing small mileage.
100/90 on both or 90/90 front and 100/90 rear? Also who is cheapest?
Chris needs tyres for the Rapide and all new tubes with each tyre. So we are spending nearly £400 (inc vat, post) according to Feked website.

I think 90/90/19 front is nice for a Comet, But would go 100/90 front for a Twin. Cheers Bill.
