Hi I have also had this problem with the kickstart stop rubber breaking up several times , even using the correct replacement.
So I found a piece of hard oil tube of the correct diameter to fit the stop pin, cut it to the correct length and clamped it to the pin with a smal Jubilee clip. The clip then acted like the metal surround to the rubber bush and provided the screw for the clip was orientated away from the backstop all has been well.
Hope this may help somebody.

One inch diameter nylon with 3/8" hole or tad smaller so a tap fit on,,offer up cover to get correct length so is held firmly in position with cover. This is the longest lasting buffer to date as it's done Route 66,once round Tasmania and twice up & down NZ riders rally & lastly NZ annual with a lap around South Island and half lap round North Island nearly 7k miles. still not returning with a metallic sound.
