If you are in the UK ? Martin Quirk the well known sidecar racer has recently set himself up as a full time classic bike builder/restorer, Quirksclassics , in Lancashire.

Further, these people ( hard to find these days) who do the paint chrome ect. do not want your little jobs they have to make a living as well, so your job gets put aside. a guy here in Australia ordered a lot of parts from the UK two weeks later the parts arrive very good service, the parcel looked a little battered when he open the parcel major parts missing OK insured, but another to weeks to replace, but life goes on.

Agreed, another point to bare in mind is with a 90% restored bike, who carries the can if the man "finishing" the job uncovers previous poor work over which he had no control or worse reveals a rats nest of problems. Very few tradesmen in any profession relish finishing somebody else's work as they will invariably be blamed for am imperfect result.

Greg, Did once , in 1988 carry a spare 18" slick (which had missed the packing up when he bike went to Daytona ),through Heathrow as hand baggage along with a bag of small tools ,spares and piston rings. May struggle nowadays with a twin tucked under my armpit. Different times, the lady at Pan Am check in said there would be no problem or cost if I let them checked the tyre in as etra hold baggage.

I am thinking that we need some more information like who did the 90% restoration and what has been done/parts fitted etc, also what needs to be done to the bike to get it on the road. Fitting an electric starter kit is easy if using the French kit and getting them to do the machining.
