The warning about Butyl Tubes versus Rubber ones has been around a long time (decades). I have always used Butyl Tubes, and when I had a flat, I never found a tube that had split, only a tube with a tiny hole as from a nail or thorn/sticker. Easily patched with cold or hot patches at the time until a replacement could be undertaken. Just my experience...your mileage may vary.

To further confuse things, Michelin claimed their AirStop tubes don't split because they have an overlap seam rather than a butted seam running circumferentially around the tire, which implies a construction issue rather than materials. Could this have been a marketing rebuttal to the criticism about butyl tubes splitting? Perhaps the original claim was anti-Butyl tube marketing by companies that only produced rubber tubes? Or perhaps they were poorly made tubes. Maybe it is no longer an issue? Anyone ever have a tube split when punctured?

I cant seem to find any motorcycle rubber inner tubes the whole of the web is filled with rubbish push bike postings. It seems those Victorian transports clog up the electronic roads as well as the real ones

My neighbour is a rubber specialist and recently he was saying that the quality of rubber has plummeted following the great pandemic.

His rubber play pool burst during one of his cosplay baby oil parties recently, totally ruining his lawn!
