Well Broadford is over once again and what a fantastic event it was
With over 80 Vincent‘s present, fantastic weather and so many motorcycling events to participate in or watch. Vendors selling merchandise, swap meets or just meeting up with old friends this event had it all.
Many rare and wonderful Vincent‘s were on show

One of the most amazing bikes was the Black Lightning F10AB/1C/ 2747 from New South Wales that was generously sent for display after 48 years and entrusted into the hands of Trevor Love from Surf Side Motorcycle Garage, who started the bike on several occasions, and rode it in display laps on the racetrack, with fans enjoying the crackle of a true pedigree race bike. It has been incorrectly reported that the Owner is a member of the Victorian VOC but if he does decide to join the club he is more than welcome!!

It was great to meet Anne Ruth Sturgeon the founder of the Victorian VOC who came over from England for the event, and spent a lot of time in the pavilion meeting up with members old and new, never dreaming that the little club she started would become 80+ strong.

Les and Judy Beyers came from South Australia, Kevin Fowler from Queensland and Jeff Wendon from New South Wales were all there with members of their Sections, presenting a solid Australian VOC presence at this event.

Terry Prince had his Salt Racer present and displaying his new heads, oil tanks and and crank shafts, whilst The Horner Brothers ruled the roost in the pits.

Shannon‘s Insurance and Museum's Heritage Committee and Motorcycling Australia must all be thanked for conducting such a well run and entertaining event for Australian Motor Cycling enthusiasts.

I would like to personally thank all those Members and Non Members who rode or trailered there bikes for display, without their dedication, events like this would not be possible. A special thanks to the Committee Members for their help and support at the Marquee and a special thanks to member Jeffrey Richardson for his work behind-the-scenes to make this event the success it was for the Victorian VOC

President Victorian Section Australia Bob Allan

Yes the Bonanza was great.........Not only that Lightning but Stuart Penn's one was there as well..........Got some interesting comments about the machined down barrel and head fins which Stu said were done at the factory............from the drive side it looked a bit like an 880 Jap. The turn out of machines was quite unbelievable both road, and race.............Jeffery literally "Hit the ground running" and did not stop all weekend, not only riding his Flash but his Restored "B" Rapide in the road bike section and in the HRD Vincent display laps. Ken Phelps was there with his two Norvins plus the Comet and the HRD twin special. Luis Gallur brought along both the Egli's and the Flash, plus his Shadow road bike, Phil Canning had my old racer plus his Shadow in the pits...........The list goes on and on.........Friday lunch time we got our first outing on the track, with me for the very first time.............It is a different track to what I am use to, with some very tricky corners leading into and out of the two main straights. With the newly rebuilt 1200 Norvin we had taken down, I did several laps with caution, and really wasn't till several sessions latter that I started to get a feel for it. I found I was sliding back on the seat as i wound on the power down the straights and it was a huge amount of fun to ride, with the bike performing flawlessly over the whole weekend. The owner had it at the festival of speed the weekend before and in the lunchtime parade lap, he handed it over to Cam Donald who apparently;y refused to give it back..................:)...............The Horner brothers were there in force with the solo bikes, the new sidecar, and the "Goodwood" bike. Phil Canning kindly let me have a ride of my old machine which was fabulous, and it was quite novel to back to back compare the original Vincent racer to the Featherbed framed 1200. I honestly felt the Vincent easier to ride mostly due to the riding position and its handling which I had put so much effort in to improving, though the Norvin definitely had more torque. On the Sunday I rode the Norvin twice, then parked it up and drained the fuel, whilst Phil Canning who has been friends of the Horner's for years was lucky enough to ride all of their Irving Vincent's at different times throughout the day..............I can not describe here the look on his face due to the excitement of it all................This was the absolute highlight of the weekend for me.........Later at about 3 pm there was one more session for the pre 63 race bikes, so Ken Horner asked Beau Beaton to go out on their "Goodwood bike" and I heard Beau say that he hadn't ridden the bike for four years since the win at Goodwood. So out on the track with many other bikes including Phelpsy on his beautiful Norvin, was Beau Beaton and Phil Canning on my old racer..............Beau was out front by about 300 yards, but backed off so Phil could catch up...............Then for no less that 3 to 4 laps they thrashed it out absolutely side by side swapping the lead with less than a bike length between them at any one time, rounding up and both overtaking any slower traffic in their way, then both side by side flat out down the straights both twins pushed to the max................The sound and sight was amazing. I was told by others that even Ken Horner was watching keenly with some disbelief to how near matched to two bikes were..................I climbed off the fence with a tear in my eye.............It was probably something never to be repeated but I'll never forget it. It's an event I've always wanted to go to, but having the Vincent marque as the main theme for this years was the big draw card. Thanks to everyone involved, especially Jeffrey Richardson who was such a driving force behind the number of bikes there, and his non stop action over the weekend was exhausting to watch. I loved it and for those of us who drove the long distance to the event I would like to say a Huge......"Thank You"..........:):):).......Cheers...............Greg.

A post somewhere else, I think Facebook, says the Lightning is currently running Shadow crankcases, while the original cases are being repaired. Does anyone know if the whole bike is mostly intact, in regards to original components?

He was out on the track most times I went out and the bike looked quite complete and original, and very non restored. Because at times there were a mix of road and race bikes with a mixture of riders, one had to be quite careful not to end up colliding with them. at one point at the end of the top straight Ken Phelps and I closed in rapidly on a road bike where we both had to come to a near full stop. I don't remember any incidents on any of those outings thankfully. I understand that Lightning did in fact have a donor Shadow engine installed and that they have they original cases where the timing side case half was damaged, my guess is a broken mainshaft that has damaged the bearing housings or similar, though It has been repaired since.

Years ago at one of our Cadwell meetings, A bloke stopped in the middle of the hairpin !, And put his
feet down, He was on his brand new Ducati 750, And things got a bit crowded ,He didn't want it damaged !.
Cheers Bill.

Yep dodgy stuff those mixed events like 1000 bikes best UK day are full parades at BHR meetings failing that intermediate track days on track like snetterton the crutch rockets don't bother you on the straightsc and in the slow corners often the big wheels allow you to keep up
